noun

A learning system based on formalized teaching but delivered with the help of electronic resources.

Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director, World Economic Forum wrote an article in 22 Jan 2020 outlining the urgent need for what has been named as a global reskilling solution.  Her article highlights two very important statistics:

  •          As jobs are transformed by the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we need to reskill more than 1 billion people by 2030.
  •         In the next two years (by 2022) 42% of core skills required to perform existing jobs are expected to change.

The 2021 Training Industry Report revealed that organizations are focused on virtual learning as well as employee well-being and retention during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.  Additionally, U.S. training expenditures rose nearly 12 percent to $92.3 billion in 2020-2021. Major factors for that increase are as follows:

  •     The number of companies in the Dun & Bradstreet database jumped by 15 percent.
  •      Training payroll rocketed 62 percent to $68.7 billion.

Prior to COVID-19, there was a rise in demand for e-learning programs.  This demand exploded during the pandemic and eLearning has become a critical tool for reskilling employees to match industrial and technological growth.

As we continue to rapidly move forward in the digital era, companies must be sure their talent can keep up. The workplace is evolving and so is the mechanism of learning. The quality of well-designed e-learning programs coupled with the right learning management system (LMS) can offer tremendous benefit to an organization behind the slipping behind the skills curve:

  •        Distance and virtual learning,
  •        Delivery of key learning materials,
  •        Progress tracking,
  •        Validation of leaner comprehension,
  •        Skills certification and records management to name a few.
